Home Exercise Program Can Improve Recovery & Help Prevent Future Ankle Sprains!

An ankle sprain is one of the most common injuries in sports where running, jumping and quick changes of direction are involved. It usually occurs from a sudden loss of balance where the foot is forced inward (more common) or outward, like stepping on another person's foot or a divot on a grass field. This "rolling" motion causes supporting ligaments in the ankle to stretch or tear, leading to pain, as well as loss of motion, strength and coordination.

Without proper treatment, the chance of an ankle sprain recurring is high. While rest is an important first step, rest alone will not help regain lost strength and coordination. A common mistake among those who have "weak ankles", or repeat ankle sprains, is they go from zero-to-full return without addressing what's been lost. An ankle that's weaker and has impaired balance after an initial injury is much more likely to be injured again.
