Residency Program Director


Amy T. Hollingworth, ATC, RN (NHMI Executive Director)

Education: BS, Ithaca College RN, Manchester Community College

Amy participated in the residency (then "fellowship") after graduating Summa Cum Laude from Ithaca in 1999. Since then she has worked in Manchester as the athletic trainer and health officer at Trinity High School and now as the NHMI Executive Director and Residency Program Director. She has daily responsibility for managing the residency. In addition to regular teaching, she coordinates all educational activities and manages credentialing and affiliation agreements with all resident rotation sites.

Laura C. Decoster, AT-Ret 

Education: University of New Hampshire

Laura was the creative and driving force behind the creation of NHMI’s post-professional athletic training educational program. Her work on this program was recognized by the NATA with the 2011 National Continuing Education Excellence Award. She remains directly involved in the residency program, supervising the Residents' research experience.

Eleanor (Nora) Beltz PhD, ATC, CSCS, NASM-CES, NBC-HWC 

Education: PhD in Kinesiology, University of Connecticut; MS in Athletic Training, Plymouth State University; BA in Biology, Colby College (Maine)

Nora participated in the Residency program then completed her PhD at UConn. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Health Sciences Department at Northern Vermont University-Johnson. Nora is thrilled to have the opportunity to teach and mentor the Residency research curriculum

Wanda Swiger, Ed.D., LAT, ATC, NASM-CES

Education: PhD in Health & Physical Education/Fitness, West Virginia University; MS in Special Education and Teaching, Shippensburg University; BS in Physical Education/Athletic Training/Health, West Virginia University

Dr. Swiger has been a practicing Athletic Trainer for over 25 years, with experience spanning the Deaf Olympics, Division I, II, III and NAIA collegiate athletics, and interscholastic sport. Dr. Swiger has been teaching in higher education since 2000 serving an Athletic Training preceptor, faculty, clinical education coordinator and a program director. Currently, Dr. Wanda Swiger is a professor and the Chair for the Department of Human Performance and Movement Science at Keene State College and serves as the advisor to the Health Professions Club. She currently serves the NATA on the cabinet of the EducATionist Community. She is excited to work with the Residency offering web-based clinical learning environments that allows residence to demonstrate and perfect clinical reasoning skills through lifelike interactions with standardized i-patients.

Max Cohen, DO

Education: DO, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine; BS in Athletic Training, Boston University

Residency: Brown Family Medicine Residency

Dr. Cohen is a board-certified Family Medicine physician from New York. He received his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Boston University and completed the NHMI Athletic Training Residency prior to attending the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school. He then completed the Brown Family Medicine Residency where he now serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and works in an outpatient primary care clinic, teaching medical students and family medicine residents. He also teaches in the Salem State University Athletic Training Program delivering general medical content and now serves with the NHMI Residency where he enjoys leading the Problem-Based Learning sessions to help the Residents hone their diagnostic acumen and clinical reasoning skills.
