In 1993 we had visions of developing a program that would promote an educational
atmosphere in our clinic and utilize all of the outstanding resources that
our clinic and surrounding area had to offer. A system of rotations was built
around professional volunteers in a wide range of sports related fields, and
combined with physical therapy clinic work experience to create this fellowship.
We accepted our first fellow for 1994-1995 -- Rebecca Lindsay, ATC from
nearby Vermont. Over the years, fellows have come from many states and
even three different countries including the United States, Canada and Japan. After six years of having one fellow annually, the program grew to
include two annual fellowships. While most incoming fellows have completed
only undergraduate work, several have come to the fellowship after having completed
Masters degrees. Most of our fellow alumni are working full time in the
field of athletic training and several are currently pursuing advanced degrees.
Among our alums are high school, college and clinical ATs, DPTs, PA-Cs and a
physician. Click

Perennially, fellows report significant benefits from our series of
orthopedic rotations especially. Of course other rotations are of great
educational value and provide outstanding experience. The program has been updated and
honed over the years and we continue to evaluate and make changes as
necessary. Click here to see the fellowship faculty and
rotation information. Another
important aspect of the program exposes fellows to the research process. Fellows
have participated in projects at varying levels with several publishing
and presenting research abstracts and five going on to become authors
on full papers. Past research
topic areas have included joint hypermobility, hamstring stretching
and football facemask removal.
