Winter Meeting Faculty
Donald Bae, MD – Children’s Hospital, Boston, MA:
Dr. Bae completed the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program
then did two fellowships: Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Brigham
and Women’s Hospital and Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at
Children’s Hospital in Boston. He has received many awards,
most recently, the St. Giles Young Investigator Award from the
Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. Dr. Bae has more
than 30 peer-reviewed publications; he has special interest in
Brachial Plexus Birth Palsy and shoulder disorders in children
and adolescents. Dr. Bae practices at Children’s Hospital
in Boston and is Assistant Professor of Orthopedics at Harvard
Medical School.
Jason Eck, DO, MS - U Mass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester,
MA:
Dr. Eck completed his Orthopedic Residency at the Memorial Hospital
in York , PA , and a spine surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic
in Rochester , MN . Prior to medical school he received a
master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Marquette
University in Milwaukee , WI . He has authored two books,
13 book chapters, and more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles. He
is currently an Assistant Professor of Orthopedics and Physical
Rehabilitation at U Mass Medical School. He specializes in
adult spine surgery at the U Mass Medical Center.
Thomas Gill,
MD – Mass General/Harvard, Boston, MA:
Dr. Gill completed his orthopedic residency the Harvard Combined
Orthopaedic Residency. The Sports Medicine Fellowship at Steadman-Hawkins
in Vail followed. He has 80 peer-reviewed publications and
is a popular speaker internationally. Dr. Gill is an Associate
Professor of Orthopedics at Harvard Medical School. He is the Medical
Director for the Boston Red Sox, Head Team Physician for the NE
Patriots and is Chief of the Sports Medicine Service at Mass General
Hospital.
N. George Kasparyan, MD, PhD – Lahey Clinic, Burlington,
MA:
Dr. Kasparyan completed his orthopedic residency at U Mass Medical
Center and his Hand, Upper Extremity and Microvascular Surgery
Fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery. He is an Assistant
Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Boston University School of
Medicine and Director of The Hand Surgery Service at Lahey Clinic
in Burlington, MA.
John Kelly, MD – U Penn School of Medicine,
Philadelphia, PA:
Dr. Kelly is Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director
of Undergraduate Orthopedic Education at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery
at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship
in arthroscopy sports trauma at Temple University Hospital. Dr.
Kelly’s clinical interests include arthroscopic surgery of
the shoulder, knee, elbow, ankle, hip, holistic and ‘preservative’ orthopedics
and physician stress. His research interests focus on Diabetes
and soft tissue stiffness as well as shoulder injuries in throwers.
Dr Kelly has won numerous teaching awards and has been named ‘Master
Surgeon’ by the Arthroscopy Association of America.
Jay Lieberman, MD – UConn Health Center, Storrs, CT:
Dr. Lieberman, MD is Director of the New England Musculoskeletal
Institute and Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic
Surgery at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Dr.
Lieberman’s clinical subspecialty is total joint arthroplasty. He
is a member of both the Hip Society and Knee Society. He was
awarded the prestigious ABC Traveling Fellowship and he received
a Physician Scientist Award from the National Institutes of Health. He
has published more than 100 peer reviewed articles and 70 book
chapters and reviews. Dr. Lieberman’s research interests
include outcomes after total hip and total knee arthroplasty, osteonecrosis,
thromboembolic disease and gene therapy for bone repair.
Matthew Provencher, MD – Naval Medical Center, San Diego,
CA:
Dr. Provencher completed his orthopedic residency at the Naval
Medical Center San Diego and his orthopedic sports fellowship at
Rush University in Chicago, IL. He has received many awards including
the ISAKOS Science Award, the AOSSM Aircast Research Award, and
was also both an AOSSM (Asia-Pacific) and an AOA John Fahey North
American Traveling Fellow. He is an Associate Editor of Arthroscopy
and Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Provencher is
currently the Director of Shoulder, Knee and Sports Surgery at
the Naval Medical Center San Diego, a full-time academic practice.
