*President - James C. Vailas, MD:
Dr. Vailas is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with a strong interest
in research. He has been the main catalyst in the creation of this Institute.
After completing the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic's Sports Medicine Fellowship,
he spent three years at George Washington University before returning to
his hometown with a dream of fostering scientific development in his community.
He is an alumnus of Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School. He practices
in Manchester with NH Orthopaedic Center.
*Vice President - Laura C. Decoster, ATC:
Ms. Decoster is a 1984 graduate of the University of New Hampshire who has
worked closely with Dr. Vailas, and has been instrumental in the formation
of the Institute. She works as NHMI's Executive Director and as Sports Medicine
Coordinator for Apple Therapy Services. Ms. Decoster currently directs the
Institute's daily operations and is responsible for the Institute's research
program.
*Nicholas J. Vailas, MS:
Mr. Vailas holds a graduate degree in exercise physiology from Michigan University
. He is the founder and CEO of Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center, and he
is CEO of Apple Therapy Services. His participation in the Institute is an
example of his commitment to the advancement of the field of musculoskeletal
medicine, and to the community. He is the founder of four physical therapy
clinics and the Safe Sports Network, a service to provide sports medicine
services to the community.
*Steven W. Schubert:
Mr. Schubert is a 1973 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst
. He is currently is the Senior Vice President - Investments for Morgan
Stanley Smith Barney in Manchester, NH . He formerly played in the National Football League with the New England
Patriots and the Chicago Bears. He has made valuable contributions to the
Manchester community with his work on numerous boards of directors and involvement
with youth.
*Marjorie A. King, PhD, ATC, PT:
Dr. King's reputation as an excellent clinician and lecturer is known internationally
and over the years she has been a very well-received speaker at NHMI's
Annual Symposia. She is currently the Director of Graduate Studies in Athletic
Training at Plymouth State University.
Gregory W. Soghikian, MD:
After completing undergraduate work at Harvard, Dr. Soghikian received his
medical degree from Southwestern Medical School, University of Texas. He
did his orthopedic residency at George Washington University, Sports Medicine
Fellowship at the Tahoe Fracture Clinic and now practices in Manchester with
NH Orthopaedic Center.
Nicholas J. Lazos, Esq.:
Mr. Lazos received his J.D. Degree, cum laude, from Harvard University in 1978,
and his A.B. degree summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College in 1974. He is
a partner in the law firm of Stebbins, Lazos & Van Der Beken, and practices
primarily in the areas of commercial law, bank lending, and real estate development.
Mr. Lazos has been involved in many community-based organizations including
the United Way , Chamber of Commerce, Latin American Center , St. George
Greek Orthodox Church and various scholarship funds.
Henry A. Roy, CPA:
Mr. Roy is a 1960 graduate of the University of New Hampshire and attended
the St. John's University MBA program. He has served on various boards
including New Hampshire Delta Dental and as a member of the
Hooksett Town Council. He has been in public accounting since 1965.
Carolann Altieri, PT II:
Ms. Altieri received her physical therapy degree from Russell Sage College
in 1980. She is currently employed as Head Physical Therapist at Apple Therapy
Services in Manchester, NH . She specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation,
especially of the knee and shoulder.
Mark Lemos, MD:
Dr. Lemos completed his undergraduate work at Williams College and his medical
education at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a sports medicine
Fellowship at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine. He currently
practices orthopedic sports medicine at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington ,
MA .

William W. Dexter, MD, Portland , ME.
Dr. Dexter is a family practice physician in Portland, ME. He also has a strong
interest in primary care sports medicine.
Kevin Guskiewicz, PhD, ATC, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Guskiewicz is the Director of Graduate Studies in Exercise & Sports
Science, Director of the Sports Medicine Laboratory, and is an associate professor
in this department as well as in the School of Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Shepard Hurwitz, MD, University of Virginia .
Dr. Hurwitz is a Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Surgeon, and Associate Professor
of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia .
Mary Lloyd Ireland, MD, Lexington, KY.
Dr. Ireland is Team Orthopedic Consultant for Eastern Kentucky University and
she has both directed and participated in medical supervision of many elite
athletic events. Dr. Ireland is active in both clinical practice and research
work in sports medicine at Kentucky Sports Medicine in Lexington .
David H. Perrin, PhD, ATC, University of North Carolina-Greensboro
Dr. Perrin is the Provost at the University
of North Carolina-Greensboro. He is a past Editor in Chief of the Journal
of Athletic Training.
Marilyn Pink, MS, PT, Westlake Village , CA.
Dr. Pink is the CEO of Health Care Research and Management in Westlake Village, CA .
Pamela J. Russell, PhD, Bridgewater State College, MA .
Dr. Russell is a Professor in the Department of Movement Arts, Health
Promotion and Leisure Studies at Bridgewater State College.
